President Museveni Invites Belgian Investors

President Museveni with
EU Foreign Policy Chief Mr. Javier Solan in Brussels.
President Yoweri Museveni paid a three day working visit to Belgium,
April 19-21, 2005. In his meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Guy
Verhostadt, the two Leaders exchanged views on bilateral and international
issues. President Museveni expressed his appreciation for the assistance
Belgium extends to Uganda. He invited Belgian entrepreneurs to invest
in Uganda and take advantage of the local, regional and international
markets that are ready to buy their products.
The President also met the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Mr. Javier
Solana, with whom he discussed EU-Uganda relations. While addressing
the Belgian- Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, President Museveni
informed entrepreneurs that they are assured of reaping profits
because they would take advantage of the growing Ugandan market
currently at 27 million people, the East African community regional
market of 100 million people, as well as the COMESA, American and
Chinese markets. He assured Belgian entrepreneurs that Uganda provides
a good investment climate as evidenced by a stable macro–economic
regime. He pointed out that the country had good natural resources
such as good quality coffee, tobacco, beef, milk, freshwater fish,
flowers, timber products, bananas, petroleum, hydropower and tourism,
among others.
The President of the Belgian- Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce,
Mr. Bernard de Gerlache, lauded Uganda’s achievements in the
economic, social and political fields since 1986.
President Museveni visited the Ghent International Flower Exhibition
where Uganda won second position after the Netherlands.
