High Commissioner Meets Kenyan Vice President
High Commissioner Matayo Kyaligonza held a meeting
with the Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs of Kenya,
H.E. Moody Awori, at the VP’s office on October 13, 2003.
He congratulated H.E. Awori on his appointment and elevation to
he high office of Vice President and wished him success in his duties
and responsibilities.
The Vice President pointed out that Kenya and Uganda
enjoy excellent relations that will be enhanced further under the
National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) government. H.E. Awori and the
High Commissioner exchanged views on a number of bilateral issues.
H.E. Kyaligonza observed that within the framework
of East African Community Cooperation, both countries should encourage
exchanges in several fields including human resource, and education.
He however pointed out that there were still some problems regarding
work permits that must be addressed urgently.
Earlier, H.E. Kyaligonza met the Minister for Roads,
Public Works and Housing Hon. Raila Odinga on October 06, 2003.
The meeting focused on infrastructure development especially the
Mombasa-Malaba/Kisumu-Kampala highway. The High Commissioner informed
the Minister that Uganda had requested Kenya to settle its outstanding
debts to Uganda under the East African Compensation Fund by identifying
and paying competent firms to construct selected tarmac roads in
Uganda.
