High Commissioner Meets Kenyan Vice President

High Commissioner Matayo Kyaligonza held a meeting with the Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs of Kenya, H.E. Moody Awori, at the VP’s office on October 13, 2003. He congratulated H.E. Awori on his appointment and elevation to he high office of Vice President and wished him success in his duties and responsibilities.

The Vice President pointed out that Kenya and Uganda enjoy excellent relations that will be enhanced further under the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) government. H.E. Awori and the High Commissioner exchanged views on a number of bilateral issues.

H.E. Kyaligonza observed that within the framework of East African Community Cooperation, both countries should encourage exchanges in several fields including human resource, and education. He however pointed out that there were still some problems regarding work permits that must be addressed urgently.

Earlier, H.E. Kyaligonza met the Minister for Roads, Public Works and Housing Hon. Raila Odinga on October 06, 2003. The meeting focused on infrastructure development especially the Mombasa-Malaba/Kisumu-Kampala highway. The High Commissioner informed the Minister that Uganda had requested Kenya to settle its outstanding debts to Uganda under the East African Compensation Fund by identifying and paying competent firms to construct selected tarmac roads in Uganda.
