Mission Commemorates Anniversary
The High Commission commemorated the 41st Anniversary of Uganda’s
Independence on October 9, 2003 at Hotel Intercontinental, Nairobi.
In his remarks, H.E. Brig. (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza observed that
Uganda and Kenya enjoy excellent relations, that will continue to
flourish under the dynamic leadership of President Mwai Kibaki and
the NARC government.
He pointed out that through increasing Uganda’s
exports to Kenya, the current trade imbalance will be reduced.
In this regard the High Commissioner observed that
Ugandan exports and Kenya have increased by threefold over the last
two years. The High Commissioner pointed out that the Mission focuses
on attraction of investment and promotion of trade and tourism,
especially as we look forward to the signing of the EAC Customs
Union early next year.
The Government of Kenya was represented by Hon. Musikari Kombo,
Minister for Regional Development and Chairman of Ford-Kenya.
Hon. Kombo congratulated the Government and people
of Uganda on attaining 41 years of Independence and re-affirmed
the NARC Government’s commitment to strengthening the bilateral
and regional relationship within the East African Community in the
political, economic and social fields.
