First Ladies Head HIV/AIDS Fight

The Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) Regional Conference was hosted by the the Kenyan First Lady Mrs. Lucy Kibaki, September 22-23, 2003 in Nairobi. The theme of the Conference was “Empowering Girls and Women in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS – African First Ladies Lead the Way.”

The participating First Ladies called for the consolidation of the available and relevant knowledge andskills on HIV/AIDS, and the dissemination of best practices in prevention control, care, treatment, and support of persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Kenya hosted the International Conference on Aids and Sexually ransmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) in September.
