President Receives Dutch Minister President Yoweri Museveni met the Netherlands Minister for Development Co-operation, Hon. Agnes Van Ardenne who visited Uganda on October 21, 2003. The President and the Dutch Minister exchanged views on a number of issues that included Africa’s economic growth and the security situation in northern and eastern Uganda. President Museveni told the visiting Minister that he regards investment and access to big markets as a milestone to growth and transformation of the national economy. He commended the Netherlands for its assistance to Uganda and asked for further cooperation especially in reactivating Uganda’s railway system to the coast, in order to lower transport costs to the sea. He also asked for assistance in the generation of electric power and research in agricultural and industrial quality products. Mrs. Van Ardenne pointed out that stability is
a key component for national growth. She commended the President
for his exemplary commitment to the fight against HIV/ AIDS.
