UN HABITAT Housing Project For Uganda
Uganda is to benefit from a UN-HABITAT low cost
Housing Project o be implemented at Mpumudde, in Jinja Municipality.
This project aims at empowering urban women entrepreneurs through
housing development and land rights.
The project will have multiple interventions by
providing funds to improve businesses and linking them with access
secure tenure (land and/or housing) that will also act as collateral/security
for the loans. It will also include provision of utilities such
as water, sanitation, electricity and infrastructure to benefit
up to 200 people in the first phase. The two year pilot project
will be implemented from 2004.
In the implementation of the project, the High
Commission will coordinate the relationship between UN-HABITAT and
relevant Government and Non-Governmental offices in Uganda, negotiate
with UN-HABITAT to provide a UN-HABITAT local officer in Uganda,
and liaise with relevant offices in UN-HABITAT to provide relevant
services to the proposed project.
