President George Bush Visits Uganda

President George Bush of the United States of America and First
Lady Laura Bush visited Uganda on July 11, 2003 and were received
by President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni at Entebbe
International Airport. The two Heads of State held talks that focused
on bilateral, regional and international issues. President Bush
hailed President Museveni for being a champion of free trade, and
for his leadership in the fight against HIV/Aids. The US leader
also thanked the Ugandan President for his strong stance against
terrorism and for his efforts aimed at ending wars and conflicts
in the Great Lakes region.
President Museveni commended the US President for his commitment
to Africa through such initiatives as the Africa Growth and opportunities
Act (AGOA), the Millennium Challenge Fund, and the US $15 billion
Aids Fund.
The US Secretary of State, Gen (Rtd) Colin Powell and the National
Security Advisor, Ms Condoleezza Rice, were among the Senior US
officials who accompanied President Bush on his tour of African
countries that included Botswana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa,
and Uganda.
