High Commissioner Meets Hon. Raila, Hon. Awori

The High Commissioner held meetings with Hon. Moody Awori, Minister for Home Affairs and National Heritage and Hon. Raila Odinga- Minister for Roads, Works and Public Transport on bilateral matters, in April 2003.

He congratulated both Ministers on their succesful election. He reiterated Uganda government’s readiness to cooperate and strengthen relationship with the NARC government.

Amb. Butagira expressed satisfaction with the open and co-operative spirit the Kenya government has shown to Uganda; especially in the areas of trade, cross border security and Lake Victoria issues.

He expressed Uganda’s willingness to share all available information on such security matters as cross-border crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and terrorism.

Hon. Moody affirmed Kenya’s vision to vigorously pursue total integration of East African countries so that there is free movement of peoples, labour and capital in order to realize easy delivery of services
to the people of East Africa.

The meeting with Hon. Raila Odinga, Minister for Roads, Public Works and
Housing, focused on road infrastructure especially the Mombasa – Malaba/Busia highway. The Minister informed H.E. Butagira that plans were underway to turn this highway into a dual carriage.
