Prof. Bukenya is New VP


President Museveni re-organised Cabinet on May 23, 2003 and appointed Prof. Gilbert Bukenya (54) Vice President. He replaces Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe who resigned on May 21, 2003 after the President accepted her request to pursue a PhD in Medicine (International Health Economics and Policy) at the Havard School of Medicine in the USA.

Rt. Hon. Apolo Nsibambi was re-appointed as Prime Minister and Leader of government business in Parliament. The Ministers who were not re-appointed include: Hon. Eriya Kategaya, and Hon. Bidandi Ssali (Local Government). Ministers of State excluded are: Hon. Miria Matembe (Ethics), Hon. Sarah Kiyingi (Internal Affairs) and Hon. Muruli Mukasa (Security).

The appointment of thVic-President and the new Ministers is subject to parliamentary approval. Parliament is currently in recess and is expected to resume in early June, 2003.
