Hon. Kategaya Meets President Kibaki
President Mwai Kibaki received a special written message from President
Yoweri Museveni on May
06, 2003.
The message was delivered by Uganda’s then First Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs,
Hon. Eriya Kategaya, accompanied by the former Minister of State
for Foreign Affairs, Hon.Kahinda
Otafiire and outgoing High Commissioner Francis Butagira.
President Kibaki noted the contents of the message with gratitude
and conveyed greetings to President
Museveni. Hon.Kategaya and President Kibaki exchanged views on bilateral
and regional matters of mutual interest. President Mwai Kibaki expressed
satisfaction with the cordial relationship existing between the
governments and people of Kenya and Uganda.
He emphasised the need to further enhance these ties by forming
a Customs Union of the three East African Countries, and ensuring
greater economic, political, and social integration.
The President also briefly recounted his life at Makerere University
as a student and later as a lecturer.
The meeting was attended by the Kenyan Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Head of Civil Service/Secretary
to Cabinet, Amb. Francis Muthaura, and the Foreign Affairs Permanent
Secretary, Amb. Ole Nkuraiya.
