H.E. Prof. Gilbert Bukenya was born on May 8, 1949, and is married with children. He is a medical doctor and Professor of Public Health.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Makerere University); Master of Science, Communicable Diseases Epidemiology (University of London) PhD, Epidemiology, (University of Queensland).

Work Experience:
Lecturer University of Papua New Guinea; Queensland University; Makerere University. Dean and Professor, Makerere University Medical School; Visiting Professor Tulene University, (USA).

Publications:
40 scientific publications in International Journals; Editor of a Book.

Politics:
Elected MP 1996, Chairman of Movement Caucus 1997-1999, Minister of State for Trade 1999-2001, Minister in Charge of Presidency 2001-May 2003.
