Bushenyi Delegation Visits Kenya
A team of about 60 Councilors from Bushenyi District in Western
Uganda, visited Kenya, February 17-21, 2003.
They were led by the Resident District Commission (RDC) Mr. Bamusedde
Bwambale, the Chairman of Bushenyi District Local Council, Mr. Ishanga
Ndyanabo, and the Chief
Administrative Officer, Mr. Johnson Bitarabeho. While in Kitale,
Western Kenya, they visited small scale farmers involved in horticulture,
agroforestry, and bee-keeping.
The delegation visited large scale diary farms and the Kenya Seed
Company. They were impressed by the scale of farming and resolved
to work towards improving their methods of farming, and to promote
agricultural exports from their district.
In Nairobi, they paid a courtesy call at Uganda High Commission
and met H.E. Francis Butagira who encouraged them to arrange exchange
visits with their counterparts as a way of sharing experiences and
fostering regional cooperation. The team also visited Mombasa Port
before returning to Uganda.
The RDC and Councillors expressed their gratitude to the High
Commission for the arrangements made to facilitate the visit. They
requested the Mission to interest Kenyan investors and businesspeople
in the opportunities for trade and investment, especially in the
agricultural and diary sectors, available in Bushenyi District.
