High Commissioner Recieves UIA Award

High Commissioner Francis Butagira received a Golden Award for attraction of investment at a colourful ceremony presided over by Hon. Gerald Ssendaula, the Minister of Finance,
Planning and Economic Development, representing President Yoweri Museveni.

He was presented with the Award by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) on November 29, 2002 during a ceremony for Investor of the Year Award held at Didis World in Kampala . This is an annual event where private sector companies are recognised by government
of Uganda for their contribution to the Ugandan economy. At this ceremony UIA recognised the best Ambassador/High Commissioner who has worked tirelessly to attract more
investors into the country.

The Executive Director of UIA Dr. Kigozi pointed out that as a result of the efforts of Amb. Butagira and Uganda High Commission, Nairobi, 39 projects from Kenya were licenced in 2002 with a total investment value of US$39.2 million.

In the category of investor of the year, the top firms were Uganda Telecommunications
with an investment of about US$80m, and Kaweri Coffee Company in Mubende with an investment of about US$2.5m in the coffee sector.

Mr. Hassan Bassajabalaba, a Ugandan investor and businessman received a certificate for investing in several projects including hotels, education institutions, and real estate creating jobs for over 1600 Ugandans.
