President Museveni Visits Israel

President Yoweri Museveni visited Israel, January 13-18, 2003.
During the 5-day official visit, he met Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
with whom he discussed bilateral, Middle-Eastern, and international
issues.
Prime Minister Sharon hailed President Museveni for his firm stand
against global terrorism. The President called for enhanced economic
cooperation between Uganda and
Israel and invited Israeli investors to Uganda.
In this regard, a Trade and Investment Agreement between Uganda
and Israel was signed.
President Museveni also met the Israeli Foreign Minister, Benjamin
Netanyahu who welcomed the President’s suggestion for greater
involvement of Africa in the search for peaceful resolution of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Israeli Ambassador to Uganda,
H.E.Yaacov Amitai, attended the meetings.
The President toured several places including the Yad Vaesham
Memorial Institute for the Holocaust, and was in-terviewed by the
Jerusalem Post and two local Television Stations. He also laid a
wreath on the grave of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
President Museveni was accompanied by the Minister of State for
Defence, Hon. Ruth Nakabirwa, Mr. Gabindadde Musoke, Permanent Secretary
- Defence, and other Senior Defence and Foreign Affairs Officials.
