President Museveni Attends H.E. Kibaki's Inauguration

President Yoweri Museveni attended the Inauguration Ceremony of
H.E. Mwai Kibaki as the new President of Kenya at Uhuru Park, Nairobi
on December 30, 2002 .
Also in attendance were Presidents Benjamin Mkapa and the First
Lady of Tanzania, Levy Mwanawasa of Zambia, Prime Minister Makuza
of Rwanda, First Lady Zanele Mbeki of South Africa, and other foreign
government delegations.
Ugandan’s delegation included Hon. Gerald Sendaula,Minister
of Finance, Hon. John Nasasira, Minister of Works, Transport and
Communication, Hon. Syda Bbumba, Minister of Energy and Mineral
Development, and Hon.Prof. Edward Rugumayo, Minister of Tourism,
Trade and Industry.
In his message, President Museveni congratulated H.E. Mwai Kibaki
on his election as the President of Kenya:
“I wish to warmly congratulate you upon your election
as President of the Republic of Kenya. I salute you and through
you the people of Kenya, for maintaining a culture of democracy
and constitutionalism in the 39 years of Kenya’s independence.
This political maturity is no doubt, a source of pride and an
inspiration to all peace-loving people in East Africa and Africa
at large. I hope and trust that the
confidence and the high responsibility the people of Kenya have
bestowed on you and your government will usher in a new era in
fulfilling the aspirations of the Kenyan people and the region
as a whole, for peace, stability and unity of the region.
I look forward to closely working with you and your government,
to further strengthen the warm and cordial relations between our
two countries towards the goal of a united East Africa.”
President Museveni commended outgoing President Daniel arap Moi
for ensuring a
peaceful transition. In his Inaugural Speech, President Kibaki thanked
the Kenyan people for giving him the mandate to preside over the
affairs of Kenya for the next five years. He pointed out that his
government would embark on :
“policies geared to economic reconstruction, employment
creation, and immediate rehabilitation of the collapsed infrastrusture.”
