Hon. Kategaya Attends Franco-African Summit

Hon. Eriya Kategaya, IDPM/ Minister of Internal Affairs.

Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Internal Affairs, Hon.Eriya Kategaya represented President Museveni at the Franco-Afria Summit hosted by President Jacques
Chirac of France, in Paris, February 20 -22, 2003. It was attended by Heads of State and government of about 45 African States. Also in attendance were UN Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan, and the Secretary General of the African Union, Mr. Amara Essy. Uganda’s
delegation included Hon. Tom Butime, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Co-operation).

The Summit was aimed at fostering linkages between France and Africa, and amongst African countries in such areas as conflict resolution, and economic development.
The Summit also deliberated on the crisis in Ivory Coast as well as the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). President Chirac called on African countries to
embrace democracy and end violence in war torn areas. He also promised to support
African regional peacekeeping operations.
