President Museveni Hosts Sports Club Villa

President Yoweri Museveni praised the good performance exhibited by Sports Club Villa that led it to victory over Simba Sports Club from Tanzania in the just concluded Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Association Champions Cup (CECAFA).

President Museveni hosted a dinner in honour of Sports Club Villa team on February 13, 2003.

The match between the two football teams was held on February 11, 2003 at Mandela International Stadium, Namboole near Kampala.

President Museveni observed that sports plays an important role in body-building, national fame, as well as teaching the youth the art of sportmanship and entertainment.

The Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Henry Oryem Okello paid tribute to Sports Club Villa and other top clubs in Uganda for their continued contribution to the game of football in the country.

He pointed that the football talent in these teams will help nurture a strong foundation for the national team--the Uganda Cranes.

The Patron of Sports Club Villa, Mr. Balamaze Lwanga thanked President Museveni for hosting them to a dinner and said it was an act of motivation and encouragement to the players, their fans and to the sports management country-wide.

The Ministers of State for Higher Education, Hon.. Betty Akech and of State for Primary Education, Hon. Namirembe Bitamazire, and the Mayor of Kampala, Mr. John Ssebana Kizito, attended the dinner.
