More Tourists Expected in 2003
The number of tourists visiting Uganda is expected to increase
significantly in 2003. Uganda Tourism Board and Uganda Wildlife
Authority have indicated that during
the month of January 2003, the tourist arrivals in Queen Elizabeth,
Mgahinga, and Bwindi National Parks increased three fold compared
to the same period on 2002. According to Dr. Wolfgang Thome, President
of the Uganda Tourism Association, the tourist arrivals for 2003
are expected to reach 250,000 while the sector is expected to generate
US$250 million in foreign exchange earnings.
In a bid to make access to Western Uganda where most of the National
Parks are located easier, President Museveni has pointed out that
government plans to set up an international airport in Kasese and
to upgrade air fields in the area.
