AfricaOne Launches Entebbe -Nairobi Flights
AfricaOne, a new Pan African Airline with its headquarters in Uganda,
launched Entebbe -Nairobi flights on September 20, 2002 at a colourful
function held at the Hilton Hotel Nairobi. The occasion was graced
by two Ministers of State from Uganda, Hon. Michael Werikhe, Transport
and Communication and Hon. Mwesigwa Rukutana of Finance respectively.
Present at the launch was the Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya,
H.E. Francis Butagira, the Chairman of AfricaOne, Captain Roy, and
a cross section of business executives and Travel Agents.

The guest o f honour was Hon. Musalia Mudavadi the Kenyan
Minister of Transport and Communication, who was represented
by Mr.Kimemia, Director for Air Transport. During the launch,
Hon. Mudavadi called on stakeholders in the Airline Industry
to avoid unorthodox business practices of charging excessive
fares in the absence of competition. Ambassador Butagira lauded
AfricaOne for filling the vacuum that was left by the liquidation

of Uganda Airlines, and pointed out that competition on the Nairobi
Entebbe route was healthy as it would result in better services,
at reduced fares.
This will make Uganda a more attractive and affordable business
and tourist destination.
