Population Census
Uganda now has a population of 24.6 million people, according to
the preliminary results of the 2002 National Population and Housing
Census.
The results released by the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics
(UBOS) indicate an increase by 7.9 million people since the last
census conducted in 1991.Then Uganda had a population of 16.7 million
people.
The UBOS Board Chairperson, Prof. Ben Kiregyeya, described the
2002 census conducted between September 13 and 19 as the "most
comprehensive ever undertaken in Uganda."
It collected household-based data on population, housing, agriculture,
micro and small enterprises and community-based data.

The gender composition shows there are 12.5 million females compared
to 12.1 million males.
Kampala has a population of 1.2 million people.
