President Museveni and Bashir Meet

Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Omar El Bashir held a meeting while attending the COMESA Summit in Addis Ababa, May 2002. The two leaders discussed matters of bilateral interest to both countries and regional issues.

Uganda and Sudan recently signed a Bilateral Protocol authorising Uganda to carry out a military operation code named "Operation Iron Fist" in Southern Sudan against rebels of the Lord’s ResistanceArmy (LRA) led by Joseph Kony. The rebels have been committing attrocities, abducting children, and killing innocent civilians in Northern Uganda.
