FAO Summit in Rome
President Museveni attended the World Food Summit in Rome, Italy
in May 2002, and addressed the three day Summit opened by Italian
President Carlo Azeglo Ciampi. President Museveni observed that
blocking Africas value added products bythe developed world
partners kills Africasopportunity to earn more foreign currency,
enhance employment opportunies and pur-chasing power. In addition,
it hinders the expansion of Africas tax base.

While in Italy, the President visited and held talks with Pope
John Paul II at the Vatican. The talks focused on bilateral and
international issues.
He also had an interview with Radio Vatican during which he observed
that the Constitution of Uganda guarantees the freedom of worship
and as such, the government does not interfere in religious matters.
He also pointed out the investment opportunies in Uganda, and briefly
discussed the Polical Parties and other Organisations Bill passed
by Parliament recently.
