President Museveni's Working Visit to U.S.A

President Museveni met President George Bush on May 6, 2002
during a 10 day working visit to United States of America.The
two Presidents discussed the peace process in the Great Lakes
Region, how African countries can access the US market, and
the Millennium Challenge Fund which President Bush announced
recently

The fund is aimed at assisting American entrepreneurs to invest
in Sub-Saharan Af-rica
at a disbursement rate of $1.6 billion for three years and thereafter
$5 billion. The fund will be mainly utilised in the development
of infrastructure.
President Bush hailed President Museveni for his efforts in the
fight against HIV/AIDS. He also commended him for being a good advocate
for the promotion of trade between the US and Africa under the African
Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The two leaders also reaffirmed their strong stand against terrorism.
In a meeting with
US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick the President observed that
"Trade is the
greatest stimulus for employment, eco-nomic development and social
transfor-mation
and the best strategy for trans-forming society through sustained
growth."
The President was accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Janet Museveni,
the Third Deputy Premier and Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. James
Wapakabulo, Tourism, Trade and
Industry Minister, Prof. Edward Rugumayo, and Ugandas Ambassa-dorsto
the UN in New York and Washington.
