Their Exelencies (L-R) Yoweri Museveni, Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, Benjamin Mukapa, Paul Kagame at an Eastern Africa Regional Summit on NEPAD, Nairobi, June 22, 2002

They took note of the outcome of the Eastern Afri-can Sub-regional Ministerial Meeting held in Kampala, in March 2002, the Dakar Summit on Financing of NEPAD, the African Economic Summit in Durban and the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) Summit in Rome. The leaders acknowledged the chal-lenges confronting the Continent in mo-bilizing both domestic and external re-sources in the endeavour to implement NEPAD. They appealed to the forthcoming G-8 Summit to be held, in Kananaskis, Canada, June 26-28, 2002 to make concrete funding commitments for NEPAD. The Summit recom-mended
that the NEPAD Steering Committee be broadened to include a repre-sentative from the Eastern Africa Sub-region.

NEPAD is Africa’s Recovery and De-velopmentPlan, that will be officially be launched at the G-8 Meeting in Canada, and the African Union (AU) Summit in Durban in July 2002. It aims
at attracting an additional $64 billion per year to Africa through promoting ex-ports,
good governance and a conducive political and economic environment for attraction of higher inflows of Foreign Direct Investment.
